What is Ping ?

Ping is a ICMP package that uses internet protocol (IP) and generally measures package delivery-receiving rate between two system. With PING, echo request package is sent to the target system and return of ICMP echo reply package waits from the system.

It serves two main purposes: checking whether the system is accessible and measuring how long does it take to receive a response. At the same time, it is used for debugging.

Some average PING response time and meanings are as follows:

< 30 ms - excellent ping
Between 30 and 200 ms - average ping
Between 200 and 400 ms - somewhat slow ping time
Between 400 ms and 500 ms - slow ping
> 500 ms - bad ping

With this online ping service, you can check the connection and delay between the two systems.

Sometimes firewalls or routers might be configured to block ICMP requests and responses. In this case, even though the system is live and working, ping request is not replied.

How can you send PING request packages?

All you need to do is to type your domain name and IP address to the form on top of the page to use our online and free ping tool.

Additionally, you can use ping_sweep module of “Metasploit Framework” software.

Or you can use the ping command as follows: ping s4e.io, if you receive a reply package, you will have a result like this:

	ping -c 4 s4e.io
	PING s4e.io (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
	64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.026 ms
	64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.036 ms
	64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.047 ms
	64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=0.035 ms
